Matthieu Peck
Matthieu Peck (b. 1989, Drancy) is a French novelist and editor who lives and works in Paris. He serves as editor-in-chief of Interlope Magazine, and contributes to publications including Artpress.
After his debut Trismus (2019), Déjà les mouches (Gallimard, 2023) was selected for the spring selection of the Prix Renaudot. His most recent novel, Descente à Bahia (Gallimard, 2025), grew out of a commission to write on the painter Pol Taburet's work in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil — an experience that became something more extended and personal: a meditation on painting, friendship, and the encounter with an unfamiliar territory, mixing aphoristic observation, sustained attention to the act of seeing visual art, and a narrative of descent — intellectual, geographic, and sensory — into a form that resists the protocols of the critical essay without abandoning its ambitions.
